"Virtus semper eadam"

For this project I chose a lazy-suzan because much like a potter's wheel, it portrays evolution; a centering point from which an amorphous mass is tactfully shaped. With this beginning point, I broaden the potter's concept of shaping and forming to the sculpting of a family ~ a sense of family heritage. To depict that idea, I reproduced an abstract of a family crest that captured the traits I felt affirmed the client's spirit ~ part dragon, lion and fish.

The dragon for its mythical fancy,
the lion for its boldness of heart and family bonds,
and the fish for its ease of mobility and Technicolor coat.

To add a bit of texture to the piece, the 1" border edge of the lazy-suzan was covered with tinted sand tile grout (acrylic paints were used for tinting the grout order to match the background color). To further the definition, white aquarium rocks were tapped into the grout before it set up.
