The dolls were goin' on road trips ~ workshops to see, artists to commune with and transformations to emerge through.
They needed a voice; the Travel Logs became a means of communicating their daunting experiences.
The Formationeers, too, had moments to share and procedural information to pass along.

Click on The Essence Doll and each rotation to read their travel logs.

Arlene Wright-Correll, creator

April 30, 2005

Today I started the doll after many days of thinking about it. Large, small, fabric, what?? Who is she? Well, I decided on a soft, fabric doll. I had not made one in over 30 years and during that time I survived a stroke which left my left hand with no feeling and my right hand with no much strength. Even sewing has become a chore.

Here is the birth of "Oma Granny.

I would like to introduce you to Oma Granny, a mother of 5, grandmother of 8 and age 70. She is a wrinkled old gal with lots of spirit left in her old age. She is an avid gardener and an artist and enjoys 24 hours of each day she has left on this planet!

As Oma Granny has aged over the years, her body has shrunk, yet even after all these years her mind is very large and needs a large head to handle it! Over the years, Oma Granny's eyesight has waned. So it was off to the eye doctor's for a new set of Granny glasses. "It's rough getting old and wrinkled, "She thinks. "The glasses do not do much to hide all that. Perhaps I should get bigger frames to cover more!"

Oma Granny has never been able to do anything with her hair, which has thinned out terribly over the years and turned grayish white. So it was off to the hair dressers for some kind of cut.

She was very angry with her creator because the creator has no feeling in her left hand since her stroke and the right hand seems to be going also. Oma Granny thinks the creator needs to get another line of work! Oma Granny was not happy with the hair. She thought perhaps she ought to try a wig, but that is not Oma Granny's style. "What you see is what you get" has always been her motto.

It seems Oma Granny has been a "Hat" person as long as she can remember. It is her signature, her style and it hides a ton of "bad hair" days. Of course just a plain hat would not do for Oma Granny. She liked the style which she seems to wear most of the year unless it is very cold. However, nothing would do for her unless her creator spiffed it up a bit. Since Oma Granny is a gardener she insisted on flowers for her bonnet. She was satisfied with the results.

Now she is ready to be shipped off to Joyce Marshall in Lancaster for the next part of her adventure and whatever the rest of the Art Doll Creators will do to her. She said, "I don't mind going naked, but I won't go without my favorite patio pot from my garden and my art easel and brushes! How will anyone know I like to garden and paint?" "Plus I hope Joyce puts some clothes on me before I get to Steven Mc Millen or I will be totally embarrassed! Also I hope these people know I love splash, color, dash, élan, even in my old age!"

The total monies spent on Oma Granny by Arlene Wright-Correll to date is $24.37.
