The dolls were goin' on road trips ~ workshops to see, artists to commune with and transformations to emerge through.
They needed a voice; the Travel Logs became a means of communicating their daunting experiences.
The Formationeers, too, had moments to share and procedural information to pass along.

My first thoughts when I met Jett were…"Joyce said he was a BOY!
He looks to be pretty non-gendered to me.
I must remedy that".

After thinking about it for about 2 seconds, I was off to Ace Hardware to see what they had in the way of plumbing supplies. Jet needed some outdoor plumbing if he was to be taken serious as being a boy. I wanted to find something appropriate, not to big and not too small…proportional. I picked out some elbows, some 'T's and a modestly sized spigot and I was on my way.

Back at the shop, I began to literally cut Jett in half to make room for his new parts. I should have taken photographs of the procedure, but I was so intently working I didn't even think to get my camera out. Even though his new spigot was small, it was quite heavy and required the added support of soldered connections to keep it up and in place.

When the surgery was complete, I re-assembled Jett and he stood proud! Looking at my accomplishment, I still thought he needed more work. I decided he needed some additional piping to give his new spigot a reason to be there. I drilled a couple of holes in some strategic locations and wrapped a piece of ¼" tubing in a spiral around an old cut off post. After bending the tubing to properly access the holes, I snapped Jett's new digestive tract into position. This made Jett begin to look more complete.

Now to work on his head. He needed an identity. Something that would show off his striking good looks AND his superior intellect. I thought maybe a discarded piece from a computer would work nicely in this application. I wanted to keep him high tech, so a CD seemed appropriate for his face. It could represent several things…a large capacity for storing knowledge, with the ability to add and delete bits of information as needed! The label would identify the personality of Jett, and make him recognizable in a crowd of others of his kind.

Jett needs some hair. It seems that shaved heads are the latest craze, but I don't think Jett's head shape lends itself well to baldness. It's kinda lumpy. I drilled small holes in a line along the top of his head and inserted some copper wires. Kind of stiff, but effective.

The only thing he needs now, is a heart. I carved one out of a small piece of scrap birdseye maple that I had been saving for a special project.

Kind of the Wizard of Oz thing going on here!
I gave him a brain (CD)
a heart,
and courage (the spigot?).

With that, I'm going to polish him up a bit and let him go outside and breathe some fresh air. I don't plan on doing anything else to him. I must leave other additions or subtractions to the other artists waiting their turn.
